Nijo jo, meaning Nijo castle, although it wasn't very castle like from what we could see. It looked more like a regular temple with the usual oriental style. It was a beautiful place to visit, the 'castle' was so ornate and had plenty of little carvings inside.We had a look around the rooms inside,
all of which looked pretty much the same as they were so minimal. You could see where the likes of Shogun sat and the secret wall behind which the bodyguards would stay. We loved the nightingale floors that were designed to keep out intruders - they would sing & squeak as you walked along them.
The grounds outside were the most impressive as there were Chinese style gardens with ponds and waterfalls.
